Work on the Waterloo and South West upgrade started in April 2016 when the re-developing the former Waterloo International Terminal for domestic services began. The project is expected to be complete by December 2018 and will provide the biggest package of improvements to London Waterloo since the 1930s.
This project is part of the London Railway Upgrade Plan, creating new connections and making space for 45,000 extra passengers every morning and every evening – equivalent to a 30% boost in peak time capacity at Waterloo.
The upgrade will include rebuilding former Waterloo International terminal, reconfiguring platforms 20 to 24, and extending platforms 1 to 4 to allow longer, ten-car trains to run to London suburban stations. It will also include creating modern accessible station concourse near platforms 20 to 24, and introducing a brand new fleet of trains with improved facilities.
